Dr. Chyng Sun is a Clinical Associate Professor of Media Studies at New York University. In addition to her scholarly research on gender, sexuality and race in the media, Dr. Sun is the creator of the documentaries Mickey Mouse Monopoly: Disney, Childhood and Corporate Power and Beyond Good and Evil: Children, Media and Violent Times. Dr. Sun's newest research projects tackle the issue of pornography, a problem that greatly affects our college students. The Price of Pleasure: Pornography, Sexuality, and Relationships, a documentary film and a book of the same name (Peter Lang, 2010), investigates a disturbing trend: while pornography has become more and more mainstream, its content has also become more violent and more overtly sexist and racist. With three other researchers, Dr. Sun also designed and conducted a large-scale research project on the content of the most-rented pornographic movies of 2005. The research results were published by Psychology of Women Quarterly in August, 2008. Dr. Sun’s forthcoming book, Fantasies Matter: Pornography, Sexuality, and Relationships (working book title), is also on pornography, and will be published by Peter Lang Publishing Company in 2010. |
